RV-8 Rudder Pedal Extensions – DXF Digital Download
Hold rudder without riding the brake. On a stock RV-8 pedal, everything your foot touches is above the pivot, so every rudder input carries some brake input with it. These extensions put about two inches of foot surface below the pivot. Push there and you get rudder only.
Upgrade the size and feel of the standard Van’s RV-8 rudder pedals with this downloadable DXF file for a pair of custom rudder pedal extensions. I originally designed these extensions for my own RV-8 build, from a 3D scan of a standard Van’s RV-8 aluminum rudder pedal, to provide a larger pedal surface while retaining the existing Van’s rudder pedal assembly. The finished extensions mount directly to the existing RV-8 rudder pedals using 8-32 screws and nuts.
The DXF file can be uploaded directly to a service such as SendCutSend or provided to your preferred CNC, laser, or waterjet cutting service.
Recommended material:
5052-H32 aluminum, 0.187" (3/16") thick
My own set was cut from 5052 at 0.187" and formed with a 20° bend.
The pedal extensions can also be used as a drill guide for locating the mounting holes in the existing RV-8 rudder pedals. Installation requires drilling and countersinking your pedal face.
Two additional mounting locations are incorporated at the bottom of each extension for K1000-08 nutplates. These provide mounting points for the optional ASA 3D-printed rudder pedal bolster, available separately from the TFlight 77 Store.
